Barton Hill Advice Services - voluntary sector agency providing welfare and benefits advice, to people with long term health problems in the Bristol area. The site also contains useful information on the disability living allowance (suitable for anyone in the UK unable to work because of illness).
Institute of Psychiatry and Maudsley Hospital - containing news and information on people, research and activities at the Institute of Psychiatry and the South London and Maudsley Trust.
MIND - official site of the mental health charity, containing details of MIND's local groups and their infoline number.
Psychiatry online - general and comprehensive psychiatry information, written for the professional by professionals
Royal College of Psychiatrists website - the website for the professional organization for UK psychiatrists, the site also includes a useful set of mental health leaflets on schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and memory and dementia
Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health - organization developing ways of improving mental health services, the site contains information about local services and best practice
The Samaritans - providing confidential emotional support to any person who is suicidal or despairing
SANE - UK campaigning organization. SANE also runs a telephone helpline, SANELINE, on 0845 767 8000 which is open from 12 noon to 2am, 365 days a year
Social Firm support group - UK-based group providing conferences and seminars for people wishing to find out more information about social firms in the UK. The site also includes useful links to European social firms and information on other employment opportunities.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
UK Psychiatric Pharmacy Group (UKPPG) - the largest group of psychiatric pharmacists in the world, the UK PPG exists to promote better pharmaceutical care for people with mental health needs and their carers. Services include the drugs helpline for the public (+20 7919 2999) and educational initiatives for pharmacists.
Virtuall - is a new learning organisation combining 'e' based learning with practical development programmes for better mental health for London. Front-line staff, service users and carers are at the heart of Virtuall's work.

Doctor's Guide to the Internet - medical news and information on a range of conditions. Free registrations allows the user to personalize their view of the site to focus on their medical interests
Health On the Net Foundation - leading international guide to useful and reliable online medical and health information
National Institute of Mental Health - based in the US, NIMH gives information on large-scale ongoing research projects, with information for practitioners, researchers and service users
PubMed - search engine providing access to abstracts of published medical research, a service of the US National Library of Medicine
Veritas - a US site with detailed information disease and treatment information, with a searchable database of ongoing clinical trials. Subscribes to HON code.
World Health Organisation - website for the WHO, including factsheets on primary health care, mental health promotion and demographic factors.
World Psychiatric Association (WPA) - a well presented site, giving information for a range of audiences on the aims and rationale and international activities of the organisation
Alzheimer's disease
ADEAR Center - good research roundups. NIH also includes progress reports on AD clinical trials database, technical info for hcps and inks to other NIH sites.

Alzheimer's Society- the leading UK organization for Alzheimer's the Alzheimer's Society site contains useful, accessible and sensitively written information for people with Alzheimer's and their carers.

National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association (NDMDA) - US-based patient organisation
Pendulum Resources - excellent bipolar information page with links to other mental health topics. Personal articles by people with the condition. Intended for public.
Living as a Manic Depressive - excellent personal site about living with bipolar disorder. Links to support groups other personal sites and treatment info.
Depression
Depression Alliance - UK charity offering help to people with depression, run by sufferers themselves.
Lundbeck - pharmaceutical company specialising in cognitive disorders with a focus on depression. The website offers covers mental health issues for professionals and non-professionals alike, and includes information resources, news and product information for example. Requires Flash to access the site.
National Foundation For Depressive Illness - a US-based support network for people with depression.
Social Audit - the publishing arm of the Public Interest Research Centre. This site looks at whether pharmacuetical companies that market antidepressants are serving public interests. It has extensive, interesting discussion boards and a downloadable report by Charles Medawar entitled "Do Antidepressants Work?"
Schizophrenia
CUtLASS - ongoing study evaluating cost-effectiveness of treatments for schizophrenia, containing useful information about health economics and evidence-based medicine in schizophrenia.
EPPIC - based in Australia, the organization addresses the needs of adolescents with emerging psychosis. Resources include information on EPPIC, information on forms of psychosis, including schizophrenia.
Rethink
- the largest severe mental illness charity in the UK.
Open the Doors - World Psychiatric Association campaign to combat the stigma of schizophrenia. The site is well presented, gives information for a range of audiences on the aims and rationale and international activities of the campaign
Schizophrenia Society of Canada - contains good background info on schizophrenia; local and regional events listings; and society newsletters
World Fellowship for Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders - helps promote public education about schizophrenia and related topics through conferences and newsletters.
